Family History

William Edmund Truman was born in 1895 the son of William a night watchman and Sarah Ann Truman ( née Dexter) of 3 Gladstone Terrace Nottingham. His father was born in 1864 at Grantham, his mother Sarah Ann Dexter in 1865 at Nottingham. Married in 1887, they had a further child Clara born 1894 in Nottingham. In 1901 they lived 14 Vincent Terrace and later at 3 Gladstone Terrace (both Hyson Green Nottingham). William Edmund's father was a night watchman and his seventy three year old grandmother Esther Truman lived with the family.

Military History

Rifleman William Edmund Truman enlisted at Nottingham on 10th September 1914 , he gave his age as 19 yrs and 54 days, his next of kin was his father William Truman of 3 Gladstone Terrace, Shipstone Street, Hyson Green, he served with the 13th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 30th July 1914. He was wound in action on 10th January 1916 with a bullet wound to his chest, he was treated at the 48th Field Ambulance where he died on 12th January 1916 . He is buried in Humbercamps Communal Cemetery Extension, France grave reference I A 10.
