He was the eldest of William Henry and Harriet Jackson's seven children. In 1894, they moved from Beeston to Birkenhead. By 1921, they had returned to Beeston where William Henry became a house painter. He died aged 79 in 1953. Harriet died aged 55 in 1930. Each of their surviving children married and settled in the Beeston area. (Beeston Remembers by David Hallam)
He enlisted at Birkenhead in April 1915 aged 18. His unit fought in Gallipoli as part of 159th Brigade, 53rd Diivision. After landing uneventfully 8/8/1915, the battalion lost 11 officers and 250 other ranks during the next two days. Struggling to cope with disease and extremes of temperature, the Cheshires were evacuated to Egypt late in 1915. Returned to the Western Front, Jackson was mortally wounded as 4 officers and 276 rankers became casualties near Quichy le Chateau including 85 wounded and 185 gassed. Jackson died at 63rd Casualty Clearing Station. (beeston Remembers)
