Alfred Cox

Sapper Alfred Cox, attested at Nottingham on 5th December 1915 , he gave his age as 29 yrs and 11 months, his occupation was that of a lithographic printer, his address was 34 Querneby Road, Mapperley. He was placed into the reserves the following day and was mobilised on 1st November 1916 . He served with the, Royal Engineers and embarked from Devonport on 29th May 1917 to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, disembarking at Basra on 6th August 1917. He was admitted to the Basra General Hospital on 30th October 1917 with sickness and by the 5th November was dangerously ill with typhoid. He died as a result of typhoid on 7th November 1917 and was buried in Basra War Cemetery (Grave Reference: I F 2).
