Family History

Joseph Taylor was born in 1880 at Silverdale, Staffordshire. He married Elizabeth Jones (born 20th August 1880 Silverdale) on 2nd September 1901 at Keele, Staffordshire, they had the following children, Arthur born 9th July 1903, Edna May born 24th January 1905, Mary Hannah born 29th September 1908, George Edgar born 18th August 1910, Francis John born 28th November 1913 and Joseph born 18th April 1916. In 1911 the family were living at 26 Model Village, Creswell, Joseph 31 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 30 yrs and their children, Arthur 7 yrs, Edna May 6 yrs, Mary Hannah 2 yrs and George Edgar 2 months old. Commencing 9th May 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week, she was living at 109 Carter Lane, Mansfield.

Military History

Private Joseph Taylor enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 23rd battalion Royal Fuisliers, he was killed in action on 27th July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
