Frank was born in Retford in 1883 and was the son of George a painter and decorator and Mary Briggs who lived at 43 St John Street,Retford In the 1911 census the family are living at 43 St John Street, Retford Frank is 28 years of age single and a garden labourer, he has a younger brother Joe 22 years who is also a garden labourer.

Military History

He enlisted in Retford and originally served with the Sherwood Rangers Nottinghamshire Yeomanry with service number 4770, he later transferred to the machine Gun Corps , he died in Mesopotamia (Iraq) on 30th October 1918, his body was never recovered or identified and has no known grave, however his name is commemorated on the Basra memorial, Iraq
