He was married to Ethel (née Townsend) in Oct/Nov/Dec 1914 and they had one child Ethel Anna born 11th April 1915 in Nottingham, They lived at 7 Lincoln Terrace, Alfred Street South, Nottingham.
Rifleman Harold Duffin enlisted at Nottingham on 8th September 1914 and served with the 13th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps . He gave his age as 20 yrs and 274 days and stated that he was a printer. He landed in France on 30 July 1915. He was killed in action and is buried in Berles-au-Bois Churchyard Extension (grave ref J.3). He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 8 July 1916: ‘Duffin. Killed in action June 29th Rifleman H Duffin, aged 23. Wife and baby.’ Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 15 July 1916: 'Rifleman H Duffin, 23, killed in action June 27th (sic), 7 Lincoln Terrace, Alfred Street South, Nottingham.' In memoriam published 29th June 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “DUFFIN. – In ever loving memory of my dear husband, Rifleman H. Duffin, K.R.R., who was killed in action June 29th, 1916. His toil is passed, his work is done, and he is fully blest, he fought the fight, the victory won, and entered into rest; but the hardest part is yet to come when the heroes all return, and we miss among the cheering crowds the face of our dear one. – From his sorrowing wife [Ethel] and child. “DUFFIN. – Killed in action, June 29th, 1916, Rifleman H. Duffin, K.R.R.
