George William Slack was born in 1898 the son of George a wagon builder and Emma Slack (née Hayes). His father was born in 1869 at Blidworth Nottinghamshire and his mother in 1876 at Edingley Nottinghamshire. Married in 1895, they had nine children. Four of George’s siblings survived infancy - Mary Ann b.1897, Kate b.1900, Ada b.1907 and Fred b.1911. In 1901 they lived at Blenheim Quarry Road Bulwell. In 1911 they lived at 171 Quarry Road Bulwell. George was a wagon builder, Mary a cotton spinner. The other children were at school.
118th Coy George William Slack enlisted at Nottingham and initially served (79364) in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, later transferring to the Machine Gun Corps. Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 149 to 154 & 163A
