Family History

Robert Malcom Free was born in 1889 at Hardstock, Cambridge, he was the son of George Arthur Free of Bayswater London. Robert married Charlotte Smith (born 19th August 1896) in 1917 at Nottingham they initially lived at 37 Heathcote Street, Nottingham and then at 64 Brixton Road Radford Nottingham. Commencing 8th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Robert Malcolm Free enlisted at Worksop, he initially served with the service number 13100 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, before transferring to the 17th battalion Manchester Regiment, he died of wounds on 25th September 1917 at No 57 Field Ambulance, Belgium, and is buried at Locre Hospice Cemetery, Belgium.
