Jack Willoughby was born on 29th May 1892 at Caythorpe and was the son of William Isaac a Police Constable and Sarah Willoughby née Rimmington of Craven Cottage, Caythorpe, Lowdham. His father William Isaac was born in 1867 at Whittington, Derbyshire and his mother Sarah Rimmington was born in 1868 at Skipton, Yorkshire, they were married in 1890 at Skipton and went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Gladys b1891, Jack b1892, Beryl b1899 and William Lawrence b1906, all were born at Caythorpe except William Lawrence who was born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 124 Hunger Hill Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 44 yrs a Police Constable, he is living with his wife Sarah 43 yrs and their children, Gladys 20 yrs a machinist, Jack 18 yrs an instrument maker for the National Telephone Company, Beryl 11 yrs a scholar and William Lawrence 4 yrs of age.
Sergeant Jack Willoughby enlisted at Birmingham, he initially served with the service number 6209 in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He landed in France on 21st September 1915 and was serving with the 10th battalion Hampshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 25th April 1917 in Greece and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece.
