Arthur Ellis was born in 1898 the son of John a bricklayers labourer and Abigail Ellis née Mills of 40 Gladstone Street, Nottingham. John was born in 1862 at Ruddington, Abigail Mills was born in 1860 at Nottingham, married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 10 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1901 they lived at 10 Shipstone Street Hyson Green Nottingham. In 1911 Abigail 51 yrs was living with two of her children Annie 18 yrs a clerk and Arthur 13 yrs a hosiery trimmer, they were living at 42 Fisher Street, Hyson Green, In 1911 his father John 49 yrs and a bricklayers labourer was resident at the Nottingham Workhouse, Hucknall Road, Bagthorpe.

Military History

Private Arthur Ellis enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st Battalion Leinster Regiment he was killed in action between 13th/16th October 1918 in Egypt. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Panel 44 in Israel.
