James Bonner was born in 1887 at Temple Breur, Lincolnshire and was the son of John a builders labourer and Elizabeth Bonner née Baumber of Brant Broughton, Newark. His father John was born in 1852 at Stragglethorpe, Lincolnshire and his mother Elizabeth Baumber was born in 1860 at Ruskington, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded the Sleaford registration district, They went on to the have the following children, John b1884 Temple Breur, William b1885 Temple Breur, James b1887 Temple Breur, Mary Elizabeth b1889 Temple Breur, Charles b1891 Temple Breur, Ada b1894 Leadenham, Lincs, and Anne b1897 Leadenham In 1911 they lived at Brant Broughton Newark Nottinghamshire John is 59 yrs and a builders labourer and James is 23 yrs and also a builders labourer.
Private James Bonner enlisted at Newark on the 25th March 1911 and agreed to serve for 4 yrs with the Army Reserves he was posted to 'B' Company 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters. Giving his age as 23 yrs and 10 months he stated he was a labourer working for Mr Robinson at Brant Broughton, Newark. On the outbreak of war he was embodied and embarked from Southampton on 25th February 1915 landing in France the following day. He was killed in action on 24th April 1915 and is buried at Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery
