John Hubert Blasdale was born in 1893 the son of Charles a framework knitter and Harriet Blasdale of 132 Gordon Road, Nottingham. Charles and Harriet (née Wood) were married in 1889 (J/F/M) in Nottingham and were to have two sons, Charles and John Hubert. In 1891 Charles (24) a framework knitter, and Harriet (24) a lace jenner, were living with their first child, Charles, at 2 Haywood Yard, Sneinton. By 1901 they were living at 3 Hawskworth Terrace with their two sons, Charles (11) and John (8). The family had moved again by the time of the next census in 1911 and were living at 132 Gordon Road Nottingham.
John Hubert Blasdale enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action on 15th February 1916 when his battalion made a counter-attack at The Bluff, outside Ypres captured by the Germans the previous day.
Menin Gate Memorial Panel 21 His brother Charles enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery, No. 85096, before being transferred to the Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 8th November 1915 and is buried at Cambrin Churchyard Extension(C. 3.) His birth was registered (with middle name Herbert) J/F/M/1893 so he may have been 23 when killed.
