He was the husband of Harriet (née Ricketts) Beck whom he married on 9th April 1898 at the Radford Parish Church and the father of Sarah Jane (born 22/5/1898) and Hilda May (born 20/12/1899) Beck. In 1911 they lived at 12 Ronald Street and then 13 Bloomsgrove Street (both Radford) and later at 13 Shirley Terrace Kirkstead Street Hyson Green (all Nottingham).
12th Bn Rifle Brigade. Rifleman George Beck enlisted on 8th September 1914, at Nottingham, standing 5' 3" tall and weighing 117lbs. He served at home until 21st July 1915 when he was posted to France. He died at 9.15am on 2nd February 1917 at 21st Casualty Clearing Station , France from bronchitis. He was buried in La Neuville Communal Cemetery Corbie Grave Reference: B.58.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged), 3 April 1917: Private G Beck, Rifle Brigade, 13 Shirley Terrace, Kirke White Street (sic), Nottingham, died of bronchitis aged 39. This man has been placed on the Radford Virtual Memorial because he was born in Radford and had lived there for most of his life. The Hyson Green address cited by CWGC and the NEP obituary is described as 'new' in Beck's Army Service Record and he may never have lived there. David Nunn
