He was born in 1876 and married Elizabeth Ann Guyler (born 1877 in Newthorpe) at Nottingham in 1904. They had two children both born at Nottingham - William Frederick Whate (1906) and Mary Lucy Whate (1911). In 1911 the family lived at 118 Kings Meadow Road Meadows Nottingham.
