Family History

Thomas Johnson was born in 1896 at Bagnall, Nottingham, he was the son of Walter a colliery clerk and Elizabeth Betsy Johnson née Starr and the brother of Ethel B, William, Edith M, Frederick W, Nellie E and Harry Johnson of 151 Cinderhill Road Bulwell Nottingham. His father Walter was born in 1869, his mother Elizabeth Betsy Starr was also born in 1869, both were born in Hucknall, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 151 Cinderhill Road, Bulwell, Walter 42 yrs is a colliery clerk, he is living with his wife Betsy 42 yrs and their children, Ethel 20 yrs a blouse maker, Will 19 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Edith 18 yrs a webbing finisher, Frederick 17 yrs a hosiery bleacher, Thomas 15 yrs a shirt trimmer, Nellie 10 yrs of age and Harry 3 yrs of age.

Military History

Gunner Thomas Johnson enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the Royal Field Artillery, he landed in France on 5th October 1915 and was killed in action on 24th September 1918, he is buried in Red Cross Cemetery, Beugny, France.
