He was the husband of Selina Smith and the father of Dorothy, Kate and Joseph Smith of 34 Oxford Street Highbury Vale Bulwell Nottingham.
7th Bn Walter Smith had served previously with York & Lancaster Regiment originally enlisting 28/8/1902. He attested for Great War service 5/9/1914. He collapsed in France and was pronounced dead at 37 CCS. A post mortem carried out by 20 Mobile Laboratory found he had died of acute heart failure as a result of endocarditis.
Avesnes-Le-Comte Communal Cemetery Extension On 17/12/1917 Selina Smith was awarded a weekly pension of 26/3d for herself and three children.
