Family History

Evelyn Freeman Ofield was born in 1880 the son of the late William a Policeman and Laniar Ofield née Buckle of Rutland William was born in 1846 he died in 1908 aged 62 yrs, Laniar Buckle was born 1849 both were born in Rutland, married on 5th February 1870 in Oakham they had 5 children. In 1911 Evelyn Freeman was boarding at 59 The Hill Kirkby in Ashfield he was 31 yrs of age and a railway signalman He married Harriett Hollis (born 7th December 1884) in 1913 their marriage was recorded i the Sheffield Registration district, they had a daughter Phyllis Evelyn born in 1914, she died on 11th April 1915. Commencing 31st May 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week Harriet married George Slater in 1918 and they lived at 100 Rutland Road Sheffield.

Military History

Private Evelyn Freeman Ofield enlisted at Hull, he was wounded and killed in ation on 25th October 1914 and is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery (grave ref. i.B.12)
