Horace Horsley

Horace was born in 1891, the son of Beeman and Mary Ann Horsley. His parents had been married for 24 years by the time of the 1911 Census and had had nine children of whom only seven were still living. Seven children were named on the census between 1891 and 1911: John A, Horace, Sophia Ann, Jabez, Elsie May, Victor and Arthur. John had been born in Nuthall but all the other children were born in Bulwell. In 1891 Beeman and Mary were living at 47 Northcote Street, Bulwell. Beeman was a coalminer hewer. They had two sons, John (2) and Horace (4 months). By 1901 the family was living at 86 Quarry Road, Bulwell. Beeman was still working as a coalminer but also had a greengrocer's shops. He and Mary now had four children; John, Horace, Sophia (3) and Jabez (1). They were still living at the same address in 1911 but Beeman's only occupation was now that of fruiterer and Mary was assisting in the business. Only six children were at home on the night of the census; Horace, Sophia, Jabez, Elsie (8), Victor (4) and Arthur (2). Horace married Annie Teago (also Teage), the daughter of Thomas and Emma Teago of Nottingham in 1915 (J/A/S). Their daughter, Irene G Horsley, was born the following year (birth registered O/N/D 1916). The CWGC record gives his widow's address as 43 Cheltenham Street, Old Basford, Nottingham.
