Family History

Baptised at St Mary's Church Lowdham 3/8/1884, John William was the son of William a market gardener and Alice Reavill née Owen of Tun Lane Lowdham Nottinghamshire. His father was born in 1855 at Stanley Common Derbyshire and his mother in 1859 in Arnold. They were married in Nottingham in 1878 and had seven children. Their first two were born in Bestwood, the remaining all in Lowdham. John’s siblings were Charles b.1879, Betsy b.1880, Alice Maud b1882, Fanny b.1887, Dorothy Elizabeth b.1891, and Kate b.1897. In 1911 they lived at Lowdham.

Military History

John William Reavill enlisted at Lowdham on 9th December 1915 aged 31. He was placed into the reserves the following day and was mobilised on 20th November 1916 into the Leicestershire Regiment. On 2nd February 1917 he embarked from Folkstone. He was posted to the 6th battalion Leicestershire Regiment on 4th February and on 19th February 1917 posted to the 7th Battalion.
