In 1911 he was 13 and living at 157 Newgate Lane Mansfield. An orphan, place of birth unknown he was living with George Bowskill a 44 year old colliery worker and his family. Ernest married Jessie Eaton at Mansfield in March 1920.

Military History

The Silver War Badge Roll (number 386136) shows that he enlisted on 23rd February 1916 and was discharged on 29th May 1918 due to wounds received overseas. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. No CWGC or UKSWD records

Extra Information

He was buried on Armstice Day 11th November 1920 in Nottingham Road Cemetery Mansfield. His headstone inscription reads: 'In loving memory of Ernest (Ex Pte) the beloved husband of Jessie Daykin who made the supreme sacrifice Nov 8th 1920, interred Armistice day Nov 11th 1920 aged 22 yrs.
