Employment, Education or Hobbies Joseph was a well known figure on the cycle track and the football field and he was the possessor of many hard won prizes, in the form of medals and trophies, secured in various parts of the country by his skill as a cyclist. In addition he had many soccer medals having played for Ripley, Long Eaton, Mansfield and several other Midland Clubs. He was employed as a coal miner.
Family History

Joseph was born at Hucknall in 1889, the son of Richard B and Louisa J Hague. Although a native of Hucknall he had resided for many years at Arnold. His Mother had re-married a Mr Stones of the Butchers Arms, Arnold. He was married to an Arnold girl Mabel Mee on 11th March 1909 in Daybrook. By the 1911 census they are shown as living at Stanley Terrace,Portland Street,Arnold he is shown as being 22 years of age and a coal miner she is 24 years and a laundry maid they later moved to 9 Duke Street, Arnold.

Military History

Joseph enlisted into the Motor Transport Branch of the Army Service Corps in April 1916, and served with No 2 Motor Transport Supply Column. He had only been in France three months when he was involved in an accident, being crushed between two lorries. He was immediately taken to hospital in an unconscious state, but he died from his injuries on the 3rd July when aged 28 years. He was buried the following morning and the whole of his company attended the funeral, the officers and men having placed a beautiful wreath on the grave as a mark of their respect.
