Arthur Goacher was born in 1886 at Hucknall and was the son of Thomas a coal miner hewer and Eliza Goacher née Lowe of 29 Fourth Avenue, Forest Town, Mnasfield. His father Thomas was born in 1858 at Moira, Leicestershire and his mother Eliza Lowe was born in 1861 at Elston, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district they went on to have the following children, Ernest b1883, Ann b1884 and Arthur b1886 all were born in Hucknall. In the 1901 census they lived at 38 Millot's Yard Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are livng at 29 Fourth Avenue, Forest Town and are shown as Thomas 53 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is livng with hsi wfie Eliza 50 yrs and their son Ernest 28 yrs a coal miner hewer and their married daughter Ann Burton 27 yrs and her children Evelyn Burton 2 years and Frank Burton 1 month old. Arthur Coacher married Rose Taylor in 1980 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration district, they went on to have the following children, May b1909 and Dorothy Goacher born 1911 In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 9th Avenue Forest Town Mansfield and are shown as Arthur 25 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Rose 26 yrs and their children, May 2 yrs of age and Dorothy 3 months old.
Sergeant Arthur Goacher, enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the service number 13974 in the Leicestershire Regiment, he landed in France on 1st April 1915 and was serving with the 55th Battalion Machine Gun Corps, when he died of wounds on 2nd June 1918. He is buried in Pernes British Cemetery.
