Family History

Thomas Bricknell was born in 1889 he was the son of John a grocer & baker and Mary Bricknell née Allcock and the brother of George, John, Winifred Mary, Margaret Helen and Marjorie Elizabeth Bricknell of Eastwood. John was born in 1862, at Eastwood, Mary Allcock was born in 1861 at Moorgreen, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 6 children. In 1911 the family lived at 27 Mansfield Road Eastwood Nottingham. John 49 yrs is a grocer and baker, living with his wife Mary 50 yrs and 4 of their children, including Thomas 21 yrs a baker. He was the husband of Gladys Lilliam Williamson (born 27th March 1893 ) whom he had married on 25th July 1917 at St John's Church, Langley Mill, they lived at Ebenezer Street Langley Mill Derbyshire. Commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week, his widow was living at 83 Cromford Road, Langley Mill

Military History

Gunner Thomas Bricknell enlisted at Nottingham in November 1915. Serving with 135th Oxfordshire Heavy Bty Royal Garrison Artillery, he was seriously wounded in May 1917 going out under heavy fire near Bullecourt to repair broken telephone wires and was awarded the MM for this action. Hospitalised in England until April 1918, he returned to France and was again wounded. He died on 16th October 1918 and is buried at Honnechy British Cemetery, France.
