William Joseph Edward Brewin was born in 1892 in Melton Mowbray and was the son of William a baker and pork pie maker and Harriet Emma Brewin née Priestman. His father William was born in 1865 in Melton Mowbray and his mother Harriett Emma Priestman was born in 1872 also in Melton Mowbray, they were married in 1891 in Nottingham and went on to have 8 children , sadly 1 was to die in infancy their surviving children were William Joseph Edward b1892 Melton Mowbray, Charles Priestman b1894 Melton Mowbray, Edith Victoria b1897 Nottingham, Gertrude Essie b1899 Nottingham, Hector George b1901 Nottingham, Eunice Priestman b1909 Nottingham and James Scott b1906 Nottingham In the 1911 census the family are living at 360 Alfred Street North, Nottingham, and are shown as William 46 yrs a baker and pork pie maker, he is living with his wife Harriet 39 yrs and their children , William Joseph E 19 yrs a clerk, Charles 17 yrs a baker, Edith 14 yrs a blouse finisher, Gertrude 12 yrs a scholar, Hector 10 yrs a scholar, Eunice 7 yrs a scholar and James 5 yrs a scholar.
Private William Joseph Edward Brewin, served with No. 9 Section (York) Royal Army Ordnance Corps, he died 25th December 1918. He is buried in Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery.
In memoriam published 24th December 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BREWIN. – In loving memory of our dear son, Private E. Brewin, R.A.O.C., who died December 25th, 1918. Only those who have loved and lost can understand. – Loving mother, father, brothers, and sisters. “BREWIN. – In true loving memory of my dearest friend, Pte. E. Brewin, died December 25th, 1918. The memory of so dear a friend, like ivy, ever clings. – Sorrowing Edith. “BREWIN. – In loving of our dear friend, Pte. E. Brewin, died December 25th, 1918.
