Family History

Father:Samuel Wigley, born in 1861 and working as a painter and decorator. Mother: Mary Jane Wigley, born in 1861 at Grantham, Lincolnshire. Brother: Arthur, born in 1896and working as a machine minder. Sisters: Ethel, born in 1890 and working as a lace hand, Florence, born in 1893 and working as a machinist and Blanche Agnes, born in 1893 and working as a lace hand. Six other children died in infancy. All the children were born in Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. Wigley was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. He was killed as the British armies began to advance against the Hindenburg Line, but his body was never recovered. His name, however, was commemorated on the Vis en Artois Memorial.
