Family History

Harry Bishop was born in 1892 he was the son of William a journeyman joiner and Susan Bishop née Rainbow and the brother of Emma, Sarah, Florence, George, Frank, Ethel and Arthur Bishop. William was born in 1856 at Nottingham, Susan Rainbow was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married on 21st December 1885 at St Peters Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 12 children. In 1911 the family lived at 86 Waterway Street Meadows Nottingham. Harry married Louisa Scothern (born 7th October 1892 ) on 28th January 1911 a the Nottingham Registry Office, they lived at 8 Rossington Road, Sneinton and had a son Harry born 2nd April 1911 at Derby. Commencing 21st April 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week. In 1923 his widow re married in Nottingham to Henry Webb.

Military History

Private Harry Bishop attested at Nottingham, on 4th December 1915 , giving his age as 23 yrs and 11 months, he was married and living at 8 Rossington Road, Sneinton, posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 11th April 1917 at Grove Park where he was posted to the Army Service Corps he served with the Motor Transport section of the Army Service Corps and embarked from Southampton on 19th August 1917 disembarking the following day at Rouen. He was killed in action on 30th August 1918 and is buried at Quarry Cemetery, Marquion, France.

Extra Information

His brother Private Frank Amos Bishop was called up and following training he was drafted to France. He was killed in action on 08th August 1918 during the the final "Hundred Days" advance at Morlancourt, South of Albert. He was buried at Morlancourt British Cemetery No. 2.
