Family History

Harry Abbott was born in 1888 the son of the late William a blacksmith and Maria Abbott née Chambers and the brother of Alfred and Frank Abbott of Main Street, Newthorpe Nottinghamshire. William Abbott was born in 1847 at Loscoe, he died in 1901 aged 54 yrs Maria Chambers was born in 1848 at Kimberley, they were married on 27th July 1868 at Heanor Parish Church, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911, Harry was living at 18, Milnhay Road, Langley Mill with his widowed mother Maria Bower, (census states second marriage) and his two elder brothers Alfred and Frank (both colliery banksmen).

Military History

Private Harry Abbott enlisted at Derby served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and died of wounds on 18th September 1917, he was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Grave Reference: XIX D 13
