Father: Henry Parks, born in 1853 at Darley Derbyshire and working as a coachman. Mother: Mary Ann Parks, born in 1857 at Syston, Nottinghamshire. Brother: William H., born in 1881 at Darley. Sisters: Sarah, born in 1886 at Harrogate, Yorkshire, Beatrice A., born in 1887 at Sutton-on-Hull, Yorkshire and Mary, born in 1893 also at Harrogate. The family lived at 9 Glebe Street, Meadows, Nottingham.
No 4 Coy 2nd Bn. Grenadier Guards. He landed in France on 28th July 1915 and he fought through four and a half years and was part of the occupation army in Germany in 1919. He died of pneumonia in Cologne, a further victim of the great influenza pandemic. He was buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery (grave ref II.B.9)
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 17 February 1919: PARKS, February 10th at Cologne of pneumonia, Private George Parks, Grenadier Guards, younger son of Mr and Mrs Parks, 9 Glebe Street. Mother, father, sisters. In memoriam published 10th February 1920 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “PARKS. – In fondest memory of my dear son, George Savage Parks, 2nd Grenadiers, died February 10th, 1919, at Cologne. He is not dead to the mother who loved him so dearly, but gone before. Always in my thoughts. – Mother. “PARKS. – To the ever dear memory of our beloved brother George Savage Parks, Grenadier Guards, died in Cologne, February 10th, 1919.
