Family History

Charles William Bemrose was born in 1889 at Branston, Leicestershire and was the son of Charles Reuben a farmer and Annie Bemrose née Levers of Rolleston village. His father Charles Reuben was born in 1854 at Caythorpe, Lincolnshire, his mother Annie Levers was born in 1862 at Sutton in the Vale, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1886 at Melton Mowbray and had the following children, Violet Mary b1887 Branston, Charles William b1889 Branston and Evelyn Alice b1902 Rolleston. In the 1911 census the family are living at Rolleston village and are shown as Charles Reuben 56 yrs a farmer, he is living with his wife Annie 49 yrs and their children, Charles William 21 yrs a grocers assistant and Evelyn Alice 9 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Charles William Bemrose enlisted at Bakewell whilst residing at Wirksworth, he initially served with the service number 36930 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with 'B' Company 1st battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers when he was killed in action on 11th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium.
