Military History

Walter Guy served initially with 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters arriving in theatre (France) 4/11/1914. He was either a regular soldier or a reservist. Guy's Military Medal citation, Gazetted 19/11/1917, reads: 'For gallantry and devotion to duty on the 18th September 1917, when serving in Crete [Trench], in the Plouvain area of Arras, employed in trench repair work, he continued to carry out his duties in spite of the enemy Trench Mortar barrage and was able to ensure that when the trenches were handed over, they were in good repair.'
