Family History

Leonard Wall was born in 1894 he was the son of the late John a coal miner hewer and Julia Hall née Hansell of Bulwell John Wall was born in 1847 at West Bromwich, Staffordshire, he died in 1901 aged 54 years, Julia Hansell was born in 1850 at Bilston, Staffordshire, they were married prior to 1872, they had 10 children. Julia Wall re married John Forrester born 1856 at Birmingham, in 1906 at Nottingham, he was a house painter, in 1911 the family. lived at 44 Clarges Street, Bulwell, Leonard lived at 502 Vernon Road, Basford, Nottingham. he was married to Sarah Johnson (born 8th May 1891) at Bulwell Parish Church on 18th December 1915. they had a daughter Winifred May born 20th September 1916 and later lived at 31 St Albans Road, Bulwell Commencing 14th April 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week

Military History

Private Leonard Wall attested on 15th February 1916 at Nottingham, giving his age as 22 yrs and 156 days, he was a coal miner, posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 19th April 1918 and reported to the depot at Derby on 22nd April 1918 where he was posted to the 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters regiment. He went to France 6th September 1918 and was wounded and taken to 12th Casualty Clearing Station where he died on 5th October 1918. Buried/Commemorated : Tincourt New British Cemetery, France. Plot 5, Row D, Grave 21.
