Julian Cecil Daniel Lazonby

He was the fifth child of Joseph and Hannah Lazonby; his birth was registered Oct/Nov/Dec 1884. He was one of six children: Annie, William St George, Muriel, Joseph, Julian and Gladys. Joseph and Hannah were both born in Wigton and at the time of the 1881 Census were living at 15 King Street, Wigton, where Joseph was described as a solicitor, bank manager and postmaster. They had three children, Annie J (5), William St George (3) and Muriel (1). Also living with them was a nephew by marriage, John Strong; they employed two female general domestic servants. They were still living in Wigton ten years later, but at 20 West Street, Wigton, and Joseph is recorded as both a solicitor and a bank manager. Three children were recorded at home: Joseph L (9), Julian (6) and Gladys (8 months). A niece, Mary Stalker (21) was in the house and Joseph employed a governess, Gertrude Gray (18, b. Grantham, Lincs) as well as a general domestic servant, Jane Richardson (27). By the time of the 1901 Census the family had moved to Nottingham and was living at 44 Addison Street, Nottingham. Joseph (53) was a solicitor. There were four children at home: Annie (25), Joseph L Lazonby (19, apprentice general warehouse), Julian (16, apprentice lace warehouse) and Gladys (10). Living or staying with the family was Joseph's sister in law, Sarah Strong (61) and two nieces, Annie Strong (33) and Mildred Strong (8). There was also one female general domestic servant. By 1911 Julian and Gladys were the only children recorded in their parent's home which was now at 24 Addison Street. On the 1911 census it was recorded that Joseph and Hannah had been married for 36 years and had had six children born alive of whom five were still living; it is likely that it was Muriel, their third child, who had died.
