Family History

Francis Randolph Hancock was born in 1894 , baptised on 5th May 1895 at the Parish Church at Pinxton he was the son of the late George a farmer and Maria Hancock née Turner and the brother of George and Sidney Hancock. George was born in 1838 at Pinxton, he died in 1913 aged 75 yrs, Maria Turner was born in 1854 at Tibshelf, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they had 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived on Wraggs Lane Skegby, George 73 yrs is a retired farmer, he is living with his wife Maria 57 yrs and three of their children, George 27 yrs, Sidney 21 yrs and Francis 16 yrs a drapers assistant.

Military History

Private Francis Randolph Hancock enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Skegby, he served with the 1st battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers and was killed in action on 14th June 1918, he is buried at Sandpits British Cemetery, Fouquereull, France.
