Family History

Cyril Gilliatt was born in 1898 at Morton and was the son of William a farm labourer and Mary Ann Gilliatt née Redford of Fiskerton, Rolleston, Nottinghamshire. His father William was born in 1867 at Horncastle, Lincolnshire and his mother Mary Ann Redford was born in 1867 at Fiskerton, they were married in 1891 at Nottingham and went on to have 9 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood , their surviving children were, Mabel b1893, Lillian b1895, Edith b1897, Cyril b1898, Ernest b1904 and Edwin b1909 , all the children were born at Morton apart from Edwin who was born at Fiskerton. In the 1911 census the family are living at Fiskerton, Rolleston and are shown as William 44 yrs a far labourer he is living with his wife Mary 44 yrs and their children, Cyril 13 yrs a scholar, Ernest 7 yrs a scholar and Edwin 2 yrs.

Military History

Rifleman Cyril Gilliatt enlisted at Whitehall, Middlesex whilst residing at Piccadilly, Middlesex, he served with the 11th battalion Rifle Brigade. He died of wounds on 31st March 1917 and is buried at Guards' Cemetery, Combles, Somme, France. grave reference 1.D.22
