Fred Puckering Dixon was born on 17th August 1886 at Shadwell, Yorkshire and was the son of Thomas Dixon and the late Jane Dixon née Puckering of Ossett Yorkshire. His father Thomas was born in 1863 at Sand Hutton, Yorkshire, his mother Jane Puckering was born in 1853 at Flaxton, Yorkshire, she died on 5th January 1894 at Leeds they were married on 6th March 1884 at Catton, Yorkshire and went on to have the following children, George William b1884 Newthorpe, Yorkshire, Fred Puckering b1886 Shadwell, Ida Hilda b1889 Meanwood, Yorkshire and Alfred Cass b1891 Headingley, Leeds. Fred married Edith Saxton born 29th September 1888 in 1911 their marriage was recorded in the York registration district, they lived at 6 Lamberts Row, St Peters Street, Radford, they went on to have 2 children, Arthur born 23rd January 1914 and Edna May born 4th October 1918. Following his death his widow Edith was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week which commenced on 18th November 1918.
Private Fred Dixon enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford, he initialy served with the service number 5079 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with the 1st battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry when he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
