Family History

George Exley Gospel was born in 1893 he was the son of George a general labourer and Mary Ann Gospel née Pallister and the brother of Edwin, Edith and Amy Gospel of 298 Alfreton Road, Nottingham. George was born in 1859 at Fridaythorpe, Yorkshire, Mary Ann Pallister was born in 1856 at Cockerton, Durham, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Pocklington, Yorkshire registration district, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood In 1911 they lived at 29 Farley Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire George is 52 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 55 yrs and 3 of their children George is 17 yrs and is a railway porter.

Military History

Private George Gospel initially enlisted on 24th April 1913 in London, giving his age as 19 yrs and 10 months, he was a market gardener, posted with service number 72907 in to the Royal Field Artillery. However he was discharged from the Army on 25th March 1914 as unlikely to become an efficient soldier (due to low intelligence) He was later called up for service and served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died on 16th February 1920 of tuberculosis and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
