Walter Hobson was born on 24th November 1885 and was the son of George Thomas a farm labourer and Agnes Hobson née Crisp of Cold Ashby, Rugby. His father George Thomas was born in 1844 at Thornby and his mother Agnes Crisp was born in 1849 at Crick, Northampton, they were married in 1868 at Brixworth, Northampton and went on to have 7 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, Walter Hobson married Elizabeth Walters (b1887 South Normanton) in 1910, their marriage was recorded at the Basford Registration District . In the 1911 census Walter and his wife Elizabeth are living in the village of Morton, Rolleston, Nottinghamshire , he is shown as being 25 yrs and a market gardener, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 24 yrs who is assisting her husband in his business, also living with them is William Kirk 54 yrs a gardener. His widow later remarried in 1923 at Ashbourne to John Slack and lived at The Barley Mow Inn, Bonsall, Matlock.

Military History

Air Mechanic 2nd class Walter Hobson enlisted on 22nd June 1916 and served with the Royal Flying Corps. He died on 27th November 1918 and is buried at Kingsway (Old) Cemetery, Kirkby in Ashfield.
