Family History

Charles Frank Clarke was baptised on 14th April 1895 at St Wilfred’s Church, Kirkby in Ashfield, he was the only surviving son of Charles James Clarke a joiner and Rebecca Clarke née Rawson of 191 London Road, New Balderton, Newark. His father Charles James and mother Rebecca Rawson were both born in 1871 at Kirkby in Ashfield, they were married on 21st July 1894 at St Wilfred’s Church, Kirkby in Ashfield, In the 1911 census the family were living at 57 Mona Road, West Bridgford, Charles James 40 yrs is a joiner, he is living with his wife Rebecca 40 yrs and their son Charles Frank 16 yrs an office boy.

Military History

Corporal Charles Frank Clarke enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion Rifle Brigade, he was killed in action on 30th July 1915 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on Ypres Town Menin Gate memorial.
