William was the son of Eliza O' Grady of Deering Street Nottingham. He was the husband of Charlotte (formerly Hayes) Grady and the step father of Dorothy Hayes. They lived at 123 Russell Road Forest Fields. His sister Catherine (Kate) Fowler lived at 192 Berridge Road Hyson Green (both Nottingham). (ASR)

Military History

He had previously served 12 years with 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) and 4 years with 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. He attested 3/9/1914 standing 5' 8" tall and weighing 146 lbs. He was posted 9/9/1914, and made acting corporal 9/10/1914, lance sergeant 10/6/1915 and sergeant 10/7/1915. He served in France between 27/8/1915 and 9/10/1915. His body was discovered '2 miles SE of Armentieres 13/5/1916' (ASR)
