Family History

Bernard Norman was born in 1892 in Nottingham and was the son of Joseph Norman a brick layers labourer of 56 Narrow Marsh, Nottingham, his father Joseph was born in 1851 in Nottingham, he had a further 2 children, Anne b1884 and Flory b1888 both born in Nottingham, his father died in 1906 in Nottingham he was 59 yrs of age. Bernard Norman appears in the 1911 census, he is shown as being 19 yrs of age, single and the adopted son of Robert and Alice Wheeldon, they are living at 17 Knob Yard Narrow Marsh Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. Bernard Norman, enlisted at Nottingham and served with 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Chatsworth Rifles), attached 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, He died of wounds on 24th July 1916. and is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe.
