He was the son of John and Sarah Ann Lambert and the brother of Charles Lambert. In 1911 they lived at 87 Upper Parliament Street Nottingham. He was the husband of Sarah Jane (née Thornhill) Lambert and the father of Sarah, John, Phyllis and Jennie Lambert. Sarah married William Lambert in 1919 and they lived at 3 Pritchard Terrace Lotus Street St Ann's Nottingham.
