Albert Edward Flint was born in 1897 He was the son of Joseph Flint a coal miner contractor and Elizabeth Flint née Beardsmore and the brother of Horace Flint of East Kirkby. Joseph Flint was born in 1871 at Ilkeston, Elizabeth Mary Beardsmore was born in 1874 at Hendesford, Staffordshire, married on 31st March 1891 Ilkeston, they had 11 children, sadly 6 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his mother is living at 2 Station Court , Bath Street, Ilkeston, where she is shown as being a housekeeper to the head of the family Herbert Littleproud, 36 yrs single and a Midland Railway drayman and her sons Horace and Albert Albert married Hilda Walters (born 23rd September 1896) on 17th April 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 43 Low Moor Road, Kirkby in Ashfield and had a son Albert Edward born 22nd August 1916. Hilda was awarded a weekly pension of 18/9d for herself and child commencing 29th October 1917. His widow went on to re marry in 1919 to Albert Greasley they lived at 30, Prospect St., East Kirkby.
Rifleman Albert Edward Flint enlisted on 16th March 1915 at Mansfield giving his age as 19 yrs and 344 days, he was posted to the Rifle Brigade and joined them at Winchester barracks on 20th March 1915. He landed in France on 1st June 1915 and was wounded in the in the neck on 7th July 1915. He was returned to England for treatment and eventually returned to France on 18th December 1915. Wounded once again a gun shot wound to his left leg he was retuned to England on 3rd July 1916. He died from his wounds at the Manor Hill Hospital, Birkenhead on 23rd April 1917 and was buried at Kingsway Old Cemetery, Kirkby in Ashfield.
