Family History

John Thomas Williams was born in 1883 in Southwark London and was the son of John Williams a jobbing gardener and his first wife Ann Richards. His father John was born in 1848 in Chatham, Kent, and his mother was born in 1853 Carrington, Nottingham. They were married on 10th August 1875 in Pontefract and went on to have the following children: Elizabeth Ann b1877 Whitwood, Yorkshire, Selina b1880 Normanton, Yorks, John Thomas b1883 Southwark, London Albert b1885 Southwark London. His mother Ann died and his father remarried on 27th June 1891 at St Peter, Sothwark, London, to Rebecca Page (born 1850 Hoxton, London). In the 1901 census the family are living at 56 Bourne Street, Netherfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at Forester Grove, Carlton, and are shown as John Williams 63 yrs a jobbing gardener, who is living with his wife Rebecca 61 yrs and his children Elizabeth Ann 34 yrs a lace machinist, Selina 31 yrs a lace machinist.

Military History

He was killed in action on 4th June 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
