Family History

Arthur Thomas was born in 1895 at Oxford, he was the son of William a general labourer on the Great Northern Railway and Emma Thomas née Tuffrey of 9 Godfrey Street, Netherfield. William was born in 1869 Emma Tuffrey was born in 1870 both were born in Oxford, they were married C1894 and went on to have 4 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Cemetery Road, Carlton, William 42 yrs is a general labourer, he is living with his wife Emma 41 yrs and their children, Arthur 15 yrs a builders errand boy, Annie 12 yrs a scholar, William 9 yrs and Albert 7 yrs.

Military History

Private Arthur Thomas enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Netherfield, he served with the the 1st battalion Bedfordshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 23rd May 1915 and is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
