Family History

Samuel Ernest Clarke was born in 1894 the son of Samuel a coal miner hewer and Emma Clarke née Sulley of 19 Forest Street East Kirkby Nottinghamshire. Samuel was born in 1868 and Emma Maria Sulley was born in 1870 both were born at Kirkby in Ashfield, married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district they went on to have 8 children, one of which died in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Private Samuel Clarke enlisted at East Kirkby he was killed in action, 27th April 1916, aged 24, in the attack near Hargicourt, France. having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
