Family History

Cecil Vyner Gerald Richards was born in 1900 the son of Evelyn Alfred an estate clerk and Emma Richards née Orton and the brother of Maud and William Richards. They lived at 10 Alberta Terrace Sherwood Rise Nottingham. Evelyn Alfred was born in 1859 in London, Emma Orton was born in 1861 at Nottingham, they were married in 1886 at St Marys Church, Islington, London, they went on to have 5 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 10 Alberta Terrace, Evelyn was 52 yrs and an estate clerk, he is living with his wife Emma 50 yrs and their 3 children.

Military History

Private Cecil Vyner Gerald Richards attested on 26th May 1917 at Nottingham, standing 5' 5" and weighing 110lbs giving his age as 17 yrs and 288 days, he was an electrical engineer. His next of kin was his father Evelyn. Posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 11th September 1917. Posted to the Durham Light Infantry he embarked from Folkstone on 3rd April 1918 and was killed in action on 19th April 1918. He is buried at Hedauville Communal Cemetery Extension
