Family History

John Francis Limerick was born in 1890 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Limerick an advertising agent and Mary Limerick née Hancock. Of 24 Northcote Terrace, Kirkwhite Street, Nottingham. Thomas Limerick was born in 1862 at Ilkeston, he died in 1913 aged 52 yrs, Mary Ann Hancock was born in 1872 at Nottingham, they were married on 11th April 1900 at Nottingham, they had 12 children, however 3 died in infancy or early childhood. However as early as the 1901 census they were living as man and wife at Allan Street, Nottingham, Thomas 28 yrs a tram conductor is living with his wife Mary 21 yrs and their son John 3 weeks old. In the 1911 census the family are living at 24 Northcote Terrace, Kirkwhite Street, Thomas 50 yrs is an advertsing agent, he is living with his wife Mary 39 yrs and 7 of their children. In the same 1911 census we find John Francis has joined the Army. He is 21 yrs of age and is with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment at barracks at Crownhill, Devon.

Military History

Private John Francis Limerick enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 27th April 1915 and is buried at Rue – Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
