He was the son of Edward and Miriam Handley of 46 Loscoe Road Carrington Nottingham. Their eldest son Tom also served. He was the husband of Sarah Ellen (née Thurman) Handley of 4 Poplar Terrace Deering Street Meadows Nottingham.
He was reported missing 26 September 1917 and confirmed killed April 1918. Tyne Cot Memorial
