Family History

William Bonser was born in 1895 at Radford, the of Sidney a coal miner hewer and Mary Elizabeth Bonser née Hind and the brother of Clara Frances, Florence May, Kate Cecilia, Mary Alice, John, Beatrice Evelyn, Annie Elizabeth and Harold Bonser. In 1911 they lived at 42 Sherwood Street Kirkby in Ashfield. Sydney was born in 1867 at Basford, Mary Elizabeth Hind was born in 1869 at Radford, married in 1890 at Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children.

Military History

Private William Bonser enlisted on 4th August 1914 at Nottingham giving his age as 18 yrs and 353 days, his was a coal miner his next of kin was his father Sidney. He went to France 27th December 1914 and was killed in action, 29th September 1916, aged 21, whilst in the line near Lesbouefs, France, during the Battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
