Family History

Arthur Patterson was born in 1896 at Bulwell he was the son of William a coal pit fireman and Mary Ann Patterson née Hills and the brother of Ada and Herbert Patterson. His father William was born in 1867 at Gayton, Norfolk, his mother Mary Ann Hills was born in 1867 at Potton Bedfordshire, they were married on 28th September 1885 at St John’s church, Bulwell, they had 6 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 they lived at 29 Musters Street Bulwell Nottingham. William 45 yrs is a coal pit fireman, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children, Ada 18 years a hosiery hand, Herbert 12 yrs a scholar and Arthur 15 yrs a coal miner pony driver. William and Mary Ann later moved to 32 Strelley Street Bulwell.

Military History

Lance Corporal Arthur Patterson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion Somerset Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 23rd April 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
